James "Jim" W. Maurer, 80, a 26 year resident of Kent Island, died on December 31, 2008 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, after a brief two month illness.

He was born on January 28, 1928, in Clearfield, PA and raised in Huntingdon, PA and previously lived in Arnold, MD.

Mr. Maurer received a B.A. from Waynesburg College and had a career in sales.

He was a veteran in the US Navy. He was member of the Kent Island American Legion, Moose Club of Queenstown, Moose Golf League, and Kent Island Yacht Club.

Mr. Maurer enjoyed golfing, reading, and watching his grandchildren in their sporting events.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anita W. Maurer; son, Scott G. Maurer of Ellicott City; two daughters, Ellen M. Lynch and Cindy M. Koolage, both of Arnold, MD; and six grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday, January, 4, 2008 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Gov. Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 5 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
