James A. Fowler Sr., 87, of Arnold, died of natural causes March 9 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Fowler was born Dec. 15, 1917, and raised in Arlington, Va. He served in the Army during World War II for five years.

He was the owner and operator of Baldwin's bakery in the Brookland area of Washington, D.C., for 20 years. Upon retirement he and his wife moved to Arnold where they resided for 16 years.

He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, baking brownies and spending time with this family.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Mary L. Fowler; four children, James Fowler Jr. of Annapolis, Gerald Fowler of Carlisle, Pa., Donna Smith and John Fowler, both of Arnold; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois O'Rourke of Fairfax, Va.; and two brothers, Leon Fowler of Middletown, Va., and Stanley Fowler of Manassas, Va.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Cypress Creek Road and Ritchie Highway, Severna Park., Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring.
