Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer, James Francis Dent, 85, of Severna Park, died September 11, 2008 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mr. Dent was born May 23, 1923 in Ecorse, Michigan to the late John and Mildred Dent.
Mr. Dent retired as a Navy Chief Petty Officer after serving for 30 years. He served
in the South Pacific during World War IL He was a member of the Naval Academy
Band in Annapolis where he was a percussionist in the Marching Band, Concert
Band and the Jazz Ensemble.
Mr. Dent was the manager of Dawson's Country Store in Severna Park for many years.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Masonic Lodge in Severna Park, the Fleet Reserve Club in Annapolis and the Boumie Temple Band in Baltimore. He was also a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
Mr. Dent was a resident of Severna Park for more than 50 years. He was a past president of Olde Severna Park Improvement Association.
He traveled with the Air Stream club and was a past president of the WBCCI club in Melbourne Florida.
He enjoyed playing music, camping, horseshoes and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Margaret M. Dent and two sons, James P. Dent and John J. Dent.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruth L Dent; six daughters, Honora M. Dent of Arlington, VA, Mary Katherine Sistik, Susan M. Armiger, Mildred D. Pierce, Patricia L Dent and Michele M. Bradshaw all of Severna Park; one sister,
Mary Ann Persson of Roscommon, Michigan and one brother, John S. Dent of Denver, Colorado; and six grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Barranco and Sons Funeral Home in Severna Park.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 am, on Thursday at St. John's the Evangelist Church in Severna Park.
