James "Jim" Hubert Adams
April 14, 1931 – August 5, 2016

James H. Adams passed away peacefully late in the evening on the 5th of August at the Hospice of the Chesapeake with his family by his side. Jim was 85 years of age born on the 14th of April 1931 to the late Earl Frederick and Dorris Booth Adams.

Jim is preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Jean Carpenter Adams and brother, Robert W. Adams. Jim is survived by his four sons and their wives of whom he was so proud: James and Tami live in Pasadena, MD; Brad and Christina live in Port Tobacco, MD; Thomas and Mindy live in Severna Park, MD, and John and Gail live Towson MD. He had 6 Grandchildren; Jacqueline, Ally, Bradley, Rilan, Cameron and Jack the youngest. Jim is survived by his sister Mary Louise Gaudian, of Virginia and brother-in-law Robert. He is also survived by 3 brothers in-laws on Jean's side of the family, Charles Kirsch and wife Linda, Belair MD; John Kirsch, Reno, NV; and Wayne Carpenter, California.

Jim retired from the AT&T Phone Company in 1988 after a 31-year-career. He also served in the Army from 1954 to 1956. It was during his military service in Hamburg, Germany, with the Counter-Intelligence Corp that he met Jean who was traveling with her parents. Their love blossomed and they were married in Washington DC in 1957. Eventually they arrived in Severna Park, MD where they lived for 32 years. They joined Chartwell Country Club where they enjoyed golf and tennis and raised their 4 sons. One of Jim's greatest honors was being elected as President of the Chartwell Country Club in 1980. His other noteworthy claim to golf fame was achieving a record 8-holes in one. In addition to enjoying a long and active retired life as an avid golfer he more recently became a coin collector and a member of the American Legion Post 7.

Jim loved watching Redskins football games with his family and would occasionally belt out an Elvis Presley song sharing his most amazing voice. "Pop Pop," as the grandchildren called him, enjoyed shopping all year long for Christmas gifts for his family. Pop Pop made it a Christmas tradition that un-wrapping gifts would go on for hours and hours with the family repeatedly laughing and hugging and sharing "I love you's" throughout the celebration. In Jim's own words, "My role, along with Nina, in keeping our family so close together is what I am proudest of."
The time came and Jim and Jean desired a change so they bought a new home in Chambersburg, PA and joined the local Country Club. After Jean passed away in 2014, Jim moved back to Severna Park, MD to be closer to his Sons and their families.

A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday August 10, 2016 from 6-8:00pm at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie Hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146.
