Edward Zido

J. Edward Zido, 79, a resident of Baywoods of Annapolis, died of complications of a stroke April 19 at his home.

Mr. Zido was born April 20, 1928, in Donora, Pa. He received a bachelor of science in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh.

He served in the Army as a medic in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

He worked for Westinghouse as an engineer in Pittsburgh and Linthicum and for the Oceanic Division in Annapolis for 35 years. He holds 28 disclosures and four patents. He retired in 1990.

Mr. Zido was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and also attended St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He bowled in numerous leagues, including mixed leagues. Mr. Zido enjoyed shooting pool and was a longtime member of the Ulmstead Estates pool group. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their youth and sporting events and musical concerts over the years. He was an avid bridge player.

He was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Irene Zido.

Survivors include one son, Gregg Zido of Severna Park; two daughters, Linda Suskie of Annapolis and Barbara Matz of Hilton Head, S.C.; one brother, Albert J. Zido of Pittsburgh; and seven grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation, 1107 Kenilworth Drive, Suite 202, Baltimore, MD 21204-2136.
