Isabella Nisbett Willis Roberston Coble was the "seventh child of a seventh child". She was born in the slums of Glasgow, Scotland on 30 January 1923. Her mother, Catherine Tracy Hamilton, was a mill worker and her father, James Robertson, a crane operator. She lost her mother as a young child and her father in her teenage years. Isa remained in Glasgow throughout World War II, working at the youth hostel and as an accountant's assistant. During this time, she met a young American Merchant Marine named Paul Coble. Isa moved to the United States to marry him in 1947. They had three children, Cathy, Carolyn, and Bill and lived in Pound Ridge, NY until 1958 when Isa and the kids moved to Stamford, Connecticut. Isa worked as an executive secretary and was able to build a house in South Salem, NY. After she retired, she moved to Saunderstown, RI and lived in the house that her son Bill built for her. She spent her last ten years in Maryland with her daughter Cathy.
Isa loved gardening, travelling, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, and reading. She took great pleasure in watching and learning about the birds outside her windows. She was extremely sharp and was a stickler for the proper use of the English language. She loved her family and was always so generous and kind. She was an intelligent, unique, dynamic woman of great strength. She always left a huge impression on everyone she met and touched many lives.
Having been properly bid farewell by her eldest daughter Cathy the night prior with her requisite "Ta-ta Ma-Ma", Isa took her last breath on Wednesday, 25 August 2010 with the loving hand of her eldest granddaughter, Bonnie, on her heart. She was the beautiful center of our family, our loving mum, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and always the life of the party. We miss her terribly and will always remember her with much awe, love, and laughter.
