In Loving Memory of Iris Khalaf (1945–2025)

Born in Meyersdale, PA in April 1945.  Iris lived a life defined by kindness, connection, and unwavering devotion to family and community. Her long and distinguished career in federal service was more than a professional journey—it was where she met the love of her life, Emile. What began as a simple lunch between colleagues blossomed into a marriage that recently celebrated 52 joyful years.

Together, Iris and Emile explored entrepreneurship, owning several restaurants before settling into a steadier rhythm: Iris returned to government service, and Emile dedicated many years to Friends House. But their true legacy was built at home, where love and laughter flourished. They raised two children, Pete and Amy, and welcomed in-laws Holly and Tim with open arms. Their greatest joy came from their granddaughters—Abbie, Sloane, and Sophie—who brought sparkle and pride to their Nana's life every day.

Iris was the family's rock and sounding board, a forever optimist who hosted countless gatherings for her sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her warmth extended far beyond family—she nurtured lifelong friendships with the same energy and affection as when they first met in their twenties. Whether catching up on the phone or chatting with a stranger in the grocery store, Iris had a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and loved.

She is survived by her devoted husband Emile; children Amy (Tim) and Peter (Holly); granddaughters Abbie, Sloane, and Sophie; sister Lisa; brothers Glenn and David; and a wide circle of cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

Iris's legacy lives on in the stories shared around family tables, the laughter of her granddaughters, and the countless lives she touched with her genuine heart and generous spirit.

Philippians 4:7: "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus".
