Irene Mary Burns, 96, of Severna Park, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026. She was born on July 22, 1929, in Baltimore, to the late Ann Krizek and Anthony Thomas Stefan.
On February 10, 1952, Irene married Neil Edward Burns Jr. They were married for over 50 years and raised their 5 children while living in Linthicum. Irene was very active in the Catholic Church. She lived a life devoted to family, kindness and a quiet strength. She volunteered at Hospice of the Chesapeake. She was also a traveling Eucharistic minister for St. John the Evangelist Church in Severna Park.
Irene is predeceased by her husband Neil Burns Jr, and her siblings Joseph Stefan, Lawrence Stefan and Patricia Moore. Irene is survived by her 5 loving children Bridget Burns, Neil Burns (Karen), Maureen (Robert), Gerard Burns and Kevin Burns. Irene was the much-loved Nana to her 5 grandchildren Brian Burns (Olivia) Katie Burns, Matthew Burns (Megan), Dan Burns, Gregory Burns (Lauren). Also she is survived by her 4 great grandchildren Blake, Hayden, Palmer and Kendall.
Irene’s gentle spirit, enduring love for her family and the legacy she leaves behind will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Family and friends may visit on Monday, April 13, 2026 from 3-6pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 12pm, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. The burial will be private at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville.
