Ida May Ashford, 80, of Catonsville and previously a 31-year resident of Severna Park, died May 30 at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore after a brief illness.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mrs. Ashford had lived at the Charlestown Retirement Village for seven months. A homemaker, she was a registered nurse in industrial nursing.

She was a member of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church of Severna Park, the Chartwell Garden Club and the Historic Annapolis Foundation.

She enjoyed playing bridge, doing crossword puzzles, reading and sailing.

Survivors include her husband, retired Navy Capt. Robert L. Ashford; two sons, Richard R. Ashford of Johnson City, Tenn., and Robert J. Ashford of St. Simons Island, Ga.; one daughter, Carol A. Duvall of Annapolis; one brother, John William Ruth of Cherry Hill, N.J.; one sister, Betsy Kreidler of Findlay, Ohio; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 400 Benfield Road, Severna Park. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
