Herman Bernard Urbach, 95, of Annapolis, MD passed away on October 16, 2018.
Herman was born on January 19, 1923 in New York City to Morris and Bertha Urbach. He was raised in Newark, NJ and moved to various locations before residing in Annapolis, MD. Herman was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Signal Corps attached with the Marines, and was present when the flag was raised on Iwo Jima. Herman was a scholar, earning three masters degrees and a PhD in electrochemistry. Herman also shared his knowledge and taught at Trinity College in Hartford, CT, and at the Naval Academy in Annapolis.
Herman worked for Olin Mathison in NY and United Aircraft while in CT. He then worked for The David Taylor Naval Research & Development Center in Annapolis from 1964-2001. He was a member of B'nai Brith and the American Chemical Society. He loved studying Hebrew, German, French and playing tennis.
Herman is survived by, his beloved wife of 62 years, Joan Urbach of Annapolis, MD; his loving children, Jonathan Urbach of Arlington, MA and Jacqueline Robertson of Columbia, MD; and his granddaughter, Victoria Robertson of Columbia, MD.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 12:00pm at Owen Brown Community Center, 6800 Cradlerock Way, Columbia, MD 21045. A burial will be held following the service at 2:30pm at Har Sinai Cemetery, 11401 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117.
