Herbert C. Gubert, 94, a 56 year resident of Severna Park, died of natural causes February 3 at Future Care Chesapeake, after a stay due to complications of a fall early last year.

Mr. Gubert, the youngest of eight children, was born September 30, 1920 and reared in the Pigtown neighborhood of Baltimore. After schooling at Southern High School, Mr. Gubert went on to work at the family bakery, where he met his future wife, Doris E. Sandruck. They were married 2 months later, Dec. 23, 1939. Shortly after being married, Mr. Gubert was called to duty in WWII in the Army Air Corp, where he worked as a b-29 tail gunner. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After the war, Mr. Gubert went on to work for the United States Postal Service, where he retired after 27 years.

For over 50 years, Mr. Gubert found enjoyment in the Elks Club, where he was an active member of the Glen Burnie Lodge #2266 for many years, including serving as Exalted Ruler from 1989-1990, and heading up the Veterans Affairs committee. In his free time, Mr. Gubert enjoyed spending time with his family, neighbors, and friends, traveling, going out to restaurants, and listening and dancing to big band era music.

Mr. Gubert is preceded in death by his late wife of 66 years, Doris E. Gubert, his parents and siblings. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, neighbors, and friends.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb 7th and 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb 8th at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, where a funeral service will be held at 1p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
