Henry A. Zwirlein, 87, died on May 25, 2012 at his home in Arnold.
Henry was born in Germany on September 10, 1924 and moved to the United States when he was four years old. He lived in Baltimore prior to moving to Arnold in 1967.
He was a highly decorated Army veteran and received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He fought in the Battle of Philippines. Later in life he worked as a machinist at David Taylor Naval Research Center.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents Alfons and Amanda Zwirlein.
He is survived by his wife Catherine M. Zwirlein (nee Culver), two sons Dennis Zwirlein (Melanie) of Glen Burnie and Larry Zwirlein (Linda) of Arnold, sister Rita Heinle and brother Richard Zwirlein both of Edgemere; as well as four grandchildren Stacie Zwirlein Morfe (Dave), Jay Zwirlein (Tina), Zachary Zwirlein, and Elyse Zwirlein, and four great grandchildren DJ Morfe, Lexi Morfe, Tripp Zwirlein, and Rex Zwirlein.
Henry enjoyed fishing and boating.
Friends may visit at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, from 2:00-9:00 PM. A mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 1pm. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
