Helene Marie Ross, 81, of Severna Park and formerly of Scotch Plains, N.J., died of cancer March 30 at the Mandrin Hospice House after a brief illness.

Born Dec. 5, 1925, in Rutherford, N.J., the youngest child of the late Michael and Helen Walczak, Mrs. Ross graduated from Colby Sawyer College in New Hampshire.

Following college, Mrs. Ross worked for Fortune magazine in New York City on the editorial staff for seven years. Later in her life, she worked as an administrative assistant for Sen. E. Homer White and then as a legal secretary for the law firm of Brassel and Baldwin.

Mrs. Ross was a member of the St. Martins-in-the-Field Episcopal Church in Severna Park and served as president of the Hospice of the Chesapeake Auxiliary and was a board member for the Hospice of the Chesapeake.

She also served on the Maryland State Medical Malpractice Board and the Maryland State Foster Care Review Board.

In 1951 she married Henry A. Ross, who later died. Surviving are one daughter, Janet St. Martin of Winston, Ga.; two sons, Gordon Ross of New Hartford, Conn., and Douglas Ross of Roanoke, Va.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Martins-in-the-Field Episcopal Church, 375 Benfield Road in Severna Park. Burial will follow in the St. Stephens Episcopal Church Cemetery in Crownsville. Arrangements are by the Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home in Severna Park.
