Helen Trent

Helen V. Trent, 84, a 50-year resident of Severna Park, died of cancer July 23 at her home after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Trent was born in Baltimore and previously lived in Hillsdale, now known as Dickeyville, as well as Whitneys Landing and Hollywood on the Severn in the county.

She attended school in Baltimore, including two years at Girls Vocational School, and worked since the age of 13 for 50 years. She was employed at Silver's 5 & 10 in Baltimore, worked as a waitress at various restaurants, and at the beginning of World War II was employed at the Glenn L. Martin aircraft plant in Middle River. She was one of the first seven women working there, and was described as "Rosie the Riveter," or a woman who replaced a man at factory work during the war.

On Sept. 12, 1946, she married Raymond Otis Trent. They were co-owners and co-managers of the Tre-Mond Restaurant and Bar in Glen Burnie from 1953 to 1971. In 1973 she began working at the former Westinghouse Electric Co. in Linthicum and retired in August 1986.

Her interests included crocheting, needlework, spectator sports such as the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Colts, reading, painting, wallpapering, and spending time gardening and with her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Linda Rae Hartlove, Carol Lynn Coffin and Sandra Jean Price, all of Severna Park, and Patricia Ann Lambden of Millington in Kent County; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was the mother of the late Karen Lee Trent-Hastings and grandmother of the late Adam Trent Price and Emily Marie Lambden.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope House, 26 Marbury Road, Crownsville, MD 21032 or Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
