Helen Violet Shiplet, 91, a resident of Saint Leonard, MD, died on April 3, 2014 at Calvert County Nursing Center in Prince Frederick.

She was born on January 5, 1923 in Chester, MD to Charles Bernard Burk and Annie Hall Eaton. She married William Odell Shiplet on June 8, 1946.

Helen worked for the City of Baltimore Parks and Recreation for over 20 years.

She was a member of Lutheran and United Church of Christ, taught Sunday school, and was involved with Job's Daughters organization. Helen was a den leader for the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Sweet Adelines International.

She enjoyed square dancing, gardening, camping, hiking, music, singing, and scrapbooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Theodore, James, Allen, Kenneth, Albert, and Bernard Burk; and her sisters, Margaret Russell and Virginia O'Brien.

She is survived by her husband, William Odell Shiplet of St. Leonard, MD; children, Myron Shiplet (Mary), Glenn Shiplet (Carol), James Shiplet (Cindra), Wayne Shiplet (Donna), and Bonny Shiplet; grandchildren, Jeffrey Shiplet, Melanie Shiplet, Kimberly Shiplet, Aimee Shiplet, Christina Gammons, Stephen Lidard, Kristine Carper, Mark Shiplet, Roxanne Knepp, Gretchen Ruprecht, Jamie Shiplet, Peter Shiplet, Kayla Shiplet; great- grandchildren, Genevieve Shiplet, Josephine Shiplet, Alyse Gammons, Nathan Gammons, Owen Gammons, Justin Lidard, Christopher Lidard, Gregory Shiplet, Lyla Shiplet, Katherine Shiplet,Thomas Carper, and Benjamin Carper; and great-grandchild, Miles Ruprecht. She is further survived by nieces,nephews, other relatives and friends.

Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 10:00 am -11:00 am at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park. A Funeral Service will follow the visitation Tuesday at 11:00 am, in the funeral home. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Baltimore.
