Helen S. O'Brien, 82, a resident of Bethesda for 50 years and recently of Severna Park, died of congestive heart failure July 18 in her daughter's home in Severna Park after a long illness.

Mrs. O'Brien was born Sept. 28, 1925, in Washington, D.C., to the late Edward and Edith Smith. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended George Washington University.

She was a performing dancer and taught exercise and dance.

She was a member of the Congressional Country Club, Christ Child Society and the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

She enjoyed ceramics and playing bridge.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph Vincent O'Brien, who died in 1992, and Robert K. Saunders, who died in World War II.

Survivors include five daughters, Carol Flanagan of Beltsville, Lynn Stringer of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mary Faye Font of Oakton, Va., Patti Child of Severna Park and Erin O'Brien of Little Washington, Va; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 4 to 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Child Residence, 419 Severnside Drive in Severna Park.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Ave. in Millersville. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.

Internment will be Aug. 7 in the Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium. Family and friends should meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Administration Building.
