Hazel Comp Immler, 91, a resident of Severna Park for almost 50 years, died of natural causes April 22 at her home.

Mrs. Immler was born Jan. 12, 1916, in Delmont, S.D., and moved to Pennsylvania at age 10. After graduation from William Penn High School, she went to Central Pennsylvania Business College for two years. She worked for the State of Pennsylvania as a secretary.

During World War II she was with the Middletown Air Depot where she was assigned to the Adjutant General.

In May 1946 she married Luther Immler and moved to Baltimore where she began her career with the State of Maryland. She first worked for the Department of Personnel and then moved to Crownsville Hospital Center where she was the administrative assistant to the superintendent. She retired after working as an administrative assistant to the director of the Maryland Environmental Service.

An accomplished pianist, at age 12 she played at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, Pa. At age 16 she was the principal church pianist. She continued to play in churches until moving to Glen Burnie in 1950.

She and her husband were longtime members of Harundale Presbyterian Church even after moving to Severna Park in 1958. They delivered Meals on Wheels for 20 years.

Mrs. Immler was a volunteer at The Clothes Box, a resale shop at Anne Arundel Medical Center, for many years and had more than 3,000 volunteer hours. An avid bridge player, she belonged to the Severna Park Bridge Club, the American Contract Bridge League and several neighborhood bridge groups. She loved all sports and had a special fondness for the former Baltimore Colts and Orioles. She was known for her hospitality, her family said.

Surviving are two daughters, Suzanne Strickland of Payson, Ariz., and Sally Stob of Severna Park; one son, Luther "Skip" Immler III of Cockeysville; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 2003.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Harundale Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church, 1020 Eastway, Glen Burnie, MD 21060, or Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
