Harry W. Reechel, 83, of Arnold, died of heart failure Oct. 10 at his home after a 10-year illness.
Mr. Reechel was born Dec. 3, 1921, and raised in Millersville and worked on the family's tobacco farm while growing up. During World War II he was an Army staff sergeant at the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart. After the war he moved to Arnold.
He met his wife, Clarice M. Schmidt, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Glen Burnie.
He drove a truck supplying water during the Bay Bridge construction and hauled trees for the building of Ritchie Highway. He also was a utility systems repairer and operator foreman for the former David Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center at the Naval Station for 35 years until his retirement.
He enjoyed gardening and working on lawn mowers and cars.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Muriel McCoy and Lorraine Alt of Arnold, Bonnie Seidelmann of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Sharon Daniels of El Dorado, Calif.; four sisters, Delores Klinghoefer and Diana Bleemke of Millersville, Leona Swan of Catonsville and Margie Meyer of Severna Park; one brother, Otto F. Reechel of Davidsonville; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, followed by services. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie.
