Harry Ernest Jagerman,"Ernie", 83,died Wednesday February 16, 2011.
He was born to Ernest and Helen Jagerman on July 12, 1927 in Baltimore, MD. AT age 4 the family moved to New York City where he lived through high school. The family returned to Baltimore in 1946. "Ernie" resided in Arnold, MD for 55 years.
Ernie joined the United States Army prior to his 18th birthday in 1945 near the end of WWII. He attended OCS training in Ft. Benning, GA, and retired with the rank of Major. He was proud to serve several stints of active duty and reserves totaling 29 years of service to his country. His profession of 40 plus years, a floor installation mechanic, working with hardwoods, stone and tile, was a skill passed down from his father.
Ernie loved fishing and hunting. He spent many days on the water and in the woods with his brother over the years and enjoyed these pastimes well into his 70's. He was a Baseball fan since childhood, and also enjoyed bowling. Ernie was an avid star gazer. He loved astronomy and at 79 years old took classes at Anne Arundel Community College to further his knowledge of space and solar systems. He loved reading, and has read hundreds of books during his lifetime. Devoted to family, Ernie was most proud of the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Jagerman, his younger brother, Frederick Jagerman, son, Bernard B. Bowen Jr. and twin great-grandchildren, Liam and Jackson Diedrich.
Ernie is survived by 2 sisters; Carole Evans of Baltimore, Emilee Dean of Crownsville, 3 daughters; Denise L. Diedrich of Severna Park, Darlene A. Listman of Pasadena, Mary E. Moorer of Arnold, 3 sons; Tommy L. Atkinson of Arnold, Michael E. Akinson of Arnold, and Perry E. Atkinson of Cambridge, MD, 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit on Monday, February 21, 2011, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at 11 am at the funeral home. Internment will follow at MD Veterans Cemetery.
