Harold Martin Connolly Jr., 71, of Annapolis, died of cancer April 8 at the Chesapeake Hospice House in Linthicum.
Known as "Harry," Mr. Connolly worked at the National Security Agency as a chief cryptologist from 1963 to 1993 when he retired.
For 10 years he served as treasurer of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park where he was a member. He also was on the board that developed the new Community Center in its early years.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 11, 1933, Mr. Connolly attended LaSalle High School and graduated in 1968 from the University of Maryland. He served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1962, and was stationed in Korea at one time.
When his children were young, he was very active with the Severna Park Green Hornets sports organization, coaching and volunteering at the snack bar.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Guenther Connolly, whom he married in July 1966; four children, Kevin M. and Timothy P. Connolly of Vermont, Karen Lee Weissinger of Arnold and Michael Guenther Connolly of Annapolis; one sister, Nancy Condangelo of Foxboro, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, with inurnment in the church Columbarium. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
