Gwendolyn "Gwen" Mason passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 15 at Somerford Place of Annapolis. She was born on October 16, 1926 in Powhatan, Arkansas, the eldest of five children.

When Gwen was twelve years old, her father passed away. It became necessary for her mother to go to work to support the family, so Gwen had to quit school in order to care for her brothers and sisters. A few years later, her mother remarried and the family moved to Baltimore. That move opened up a tremendous opportunity for Gwen, and she began her career with the C&P Telephone Company as an information operator. She possessed a strong work ethic and a determination to succeed in life. These qualities enabled her to move up to the position of supervisor, group chief operator, chief operator, and finally, at the end of her career, to plant supervisor.

She married Andrew "Jim" Mason in 1947 and they were married for more than 55 years until Jim's death in 2003. They resided in South Baltimore until 1969 when they moved to Linthicum, MD.

After her retirement from Verizon in 1985, Gwen enjoyed traveling to points of interest in the U.S. and Europe; taking trips to Ocean City, MD, boating, sewing, crocheting, working in her yard, and spending time with her family. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

Gwen is survived by her daughter, Sharon Evans (Bob) of Severna Park, MD, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother, one sister and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 12:00p to 1:00p at the Barranco & Sons P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1:00p immediately following the visitation. Interment will take place at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 7231 Ritchie Hwy, in Glen Burnie.
