Baltimore, MD and Tampa, FL Businessman
Gordon H. Loetz, a Baltimore area resident and executive with business affiliations in Baltimore, MD and Tampa, FL died while vacationing with his wife and oldest son in Puerto Rico in a boating accident, Friday March 27, 2009. The Arnold, MD resident was 59.
"Gordy, as most called him, was a very gregarious and fun loving family man" said, Ned Spilker, a best friend; "always there to lend a helping hand to his family and friends.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him."
Mr. Loetz was born November 11, 1949, in Baltimore Maryland and grew up in Glen Burnie. He was the son of Frank and Eileen Loetz. He was a 1967 graduate of Glen Burnie High School. It was there he met the love of his life, his high school sweetheart who later became his wife, Ms. Deborah Ann Carter. He earned a bachelor's degree from The University of Baltimore in 1972.
In the mid 1970s, Mr. Loetz founded Comprehensive Financial Services (CFS), a financial investment and advisory firm headquartered in Severna Park, MD.
In addition to CFS, Mr. Loetz served on the Board of Directors at Sykes Enterprises, Inc., headquartered in Tampa FL, from November 1993 through 2001. Over the course of this period he held several positions including Vice Chairman, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. More recently, Mr. Loetz became President of Gunn-Allen Financial, Inc., headquartered in Tampa.
Further, as an Arnold, MD resident over the past two decades, Mr. Loetz has served as Chairman of the Board of Chesapeake Academy in Arnold, MD and on the Board of Summit School in Edgewater, MD.
"While he was a brilliant business executive and financial advisor, Gordy was like a son to me" said John H. Sykes, a prominent Tampa, Florida businessman and founder of Sykes Enterprises Incorporated. "He will be deeply missed by those whose lives he touched."
According to his family and numerous friends, his real joy in life, besides his family, was boating and fishing. On any given weekend he could be found on the Severn River or Chesapeake Bay enjoying the fresh air, trying to land the "big one" and entertaining those that were with him.
Visitations are this Friday April 3rd, at Barranco Funeral Home on Richie Highway in Severna Park from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00. A memorial service will be held at Severna Park Methodist Church on Benfield Road Saturday April 4th at 10:00 AM followed by burial at Meadow Ridge Cemetery.
Gordy is survived by his wife of 32 years, Debbie, four sons, Carter, Chase, Chris and Colby, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Loetz.
