Glenda Lee McAlister passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 14, 2013. Glenda, born in California, grew up in Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania. She met her husband, Byron, at school at the University of Kentucky, where the two quickly fell in love and married. After living in Chicago, IL and Bethlehem, PA, they settled in Severna Park, MD and raised their family.
Most precious to Glenda was her family – near, far and extended. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and doting grandmother. She is survived by her three children, daughters Lauryn (Jon) and Meredith, and son Darrin, her mother M. Patricia, her brother Garry, and her two grandchildren, Quinlyn and McKenna. She was preceded in death by her father, Glenn Martin and her husband, Byron Duane McAlister.
Glenda was most known for her warm and welcoming heart and "open door" household. Known by many as "mom," her giving heart, grace and understanding were a blessing to every friend, neighbor and teammate her children ever had. Her bright smile and avid cheering at her children's sporting events were easily recognizable. She was also known as a gifted artist and crafter, especially for her knitting and holiday crafts.
A visitation celebrating her life will be held at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, on Sunday, October 20th, at 1 p.m -4:00 pm. A reception at the family home will follow.
