Gladys Mae Anna passed away on August 19th 2026.

She was born on June 20, 1936 in Mt. Vernon Missouri to Theodore and Minna Aufdembrink. She grew up in Missouri, graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and attended the University of Missouri, where she met the love of her life, Donald Anna. They were married in the spring of 1957 and soon after they welcomed their first child. Donald was deployed to Japan, and Gladys moved back with her parents until he returned from overseas. When he returned, they moved back to Columbia, MO so he could finish his college degree. Later, they moved to Maryland and have been in the area ever since.

Gladys worked briefly as a seamstress but as she and Donald grew their family she stayed at home to care for their children. She was a member of Gloria Dei! Lutheran Church in Arnold. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards, golf, and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Glenn Anna; her half-brothers Arthur and Edward Aufdembrink; her brothers James, Alvin, and Benjamin Aufdembrink; and her sisters Laura Aufdembrink and Edna Bergemann.

She is survived by her daughters Rebecca (Kenneth) Smith and Pamela (Stephen) Swain; her sons Douglas (Kara) Anna, Gregory (Crista) Anna, Jeffrey (Ann) Anna and Russell Anna (Lori Freedman); and her sixteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Kidney Foundation, and Gloria Dei! Lutheran Church.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday August 26th from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Barranco Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146. Her funeral service will be held the following day, Thursday August 27th at 11:00am At Gloria Dei! Lutheran Church, 461 College Pkwy, Arnold, MD 21012, with burial to follow at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road Crownsville MD, 21032.
