Giovanna "Jenny" Sofia, 78, of Arnold, died on June 22, 2013 of heart failure at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.

Giovanna was born on January 3, 1935 in the Little Italy neighborhood of Baltimore and attended St. Leo's School and The Catholic High School of Baltimore.

She was a devoted wife and mother. She also worked for Baltimore Gas and Electric as a payroll clerk, retiring in 1996 after twenty years of service.

Giovanna was an active parishioner and volunteer for St. John the Evangelist Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and participated in Bible Study. She was also a member of the Ladies of the Holy Trinity with the Knights of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her husband Michele " Mike" Sofia who died on April 30, 2012, her parents, Maurizio and Nella Dell' Uomo, and her brothers, Joseph and John Dell' Uomo.

She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Carmela A. Sofia of Fall River, MA, and sons, Michael J. Sofia, Ph.D (wife Charlene) of Doylestown, PA and John M. Sofia (wife Jean) of Newark, DE;and four grandchildren, Jacqueline, Michelle, Jason, and Blaz.

Friends may visit at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church on Wednesday at 1pm. Interment will follow at Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Baltimore.
