Gino Mezzapelle, 67, of Severna Park, died Friday, May 16.
He was born to the late John and Angelina Mezzapelle, August 22, 1946 in Maywood, CA. Gino received a BA in Music from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1968, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the Catholic University of America, Washington D.C. in 1979. His passion for music was obvious to all that knew him.
He married Caroline Mezzapelle on March 27, 1971. They raised two children, Anthony and Joseph Mezzapelle, who both benefited from his love of music.
Gino served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1986, spending a majority of the time playing for the Fort Meade Army Field Band and Army Band at Fort Monroe, Virginia. Following Army Service, Gino went on to teach music at public schools in Virginia, and then taught at a college level for 2 years at Kentucky State University. With a desire to be closer to extended relatives, Gino moved his family to Severna Park, MD, in 1989 where he stayed for the remainder of his life.
During his career, he performed various musical styles including classical, jazz, and big band for countless events. He has performed with the Louisville Symphony Orchestra; Virginia Symphony; National Symphony Orchestra; Baltimore Symphony Orchestra; U.S. Army Band; Las Vegas Hilton Orchestra; Stan Kenton Neophonic; and the Ballet America. During the last twenty years of his life, he led his own musical company, Gino's Great Music Productions, which contracted for weddings and parties. While Gino was skilled at most musical instruments, his primary instruments were the flute, clarinet, and saxophone.
Gino was an active member of St. John the Evangelist and served in their choir. Gino loved to travel, having visited 49 of the 50 states as well as many countries around the world.
He is survived by his wife, two children, two grandchildren, and his brother, John Mezzapelle.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday May 24, 2014 at 10:00am in the St. John Roman Catholic Church 689 Ritchie Hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment will be held at a later date.
