Gerry Earlene Miller, nee Davis, was born on July 5, 1928 in Newberry, Florida to Early Leon Davis and Amanda Morrison Davis. She was the youngest and last surviving of six children.Gerry grew up on a farm in Florida and, at 21, was living with her sister and her husband in Columbus, Georgia. In early 1950, while working at the ticket booth of the local movie theater, she met Robert ("Bob") Charles Miller, a recent graduate of United States Military Academy at West Point. After a brief and intense courtship, Bob, with orders to Puerto Rico, showed up at Gerry's house, empty suitcase in hand, insisting Gerry accompany him to Puerto Rico. Bob refused to take no for an answer and, on April 14, 1950, the two married. Gerry spent the next 23 years as a devoted military wife, caring for their family through Bob's deployments to Korea and Vietnam. Over the course of several decades, Gerry and Bob traversed half a world, from Hawaii to Germany. During those years, Gerry volunteered with the American Red Cross, remained active in her children's schools and in the Army Wives' Association, and served as a Girl Scout Leader. Bob retired from Fort Meade, Maryland, and the two settled in Millersville, Maryland. After their youngest had completed his education, the two had grand plans to travel but God had other plans. Sadly, Gerry lost the love of her life in 1993 when Bob died unexpectedly, leaving Gerry a widow at the young age of 64. During her life, Gerry conquered so many challenges, including breast and skin cancer and the loss of one eye. Throughout it all, she retained a zest for life, a strong devotion to her family, and a steadfast faith in our loving and merciful God. After losing Bob, Gerry traveled across the globe with one or more of her children. She rode horses at an old western dude ranch in Tucson, ventured on a hot air balloon ride over Cappadocia, Turkey, dined on fish next to the Sea of Galilee, traveled around Scotland and Ireland, visited the Hermitage and Peterhof Palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and traveled to the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia. She charmed people wherever she went, and she and her cruise buddy, Phyllis, became known as the "Martini Girls."

Gerry is survived by her four children: Robert L. Miller, Kenda G. Davis, Debra L. Hollis, and Wendy Miller Smolen. She is also survived by her three sons-in-law: Virgil Davis, Scott D. Hollis, and Paul M. Smolen. Gerry had six grandchildren: Jessica Potter (Jeff), Jennifer Martin (Brandon), Scott B. Hollis (Terri), Amanda Burd (Marc), Benjamin Miller Smolen, and Sarah Smolen Coleman (Collin). Gerry also leaves behind ten great-grandchildren. Gerry loved the family that she built with Bob, and she inspired great devotion in her children, who were planning to spend Gerry's 94th birthday with her. Her family will miss her humor and her grit.
