On Saturday, January 15, 2022, George William Walburn III, loving father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 76 at Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, Md.
George "Bill" Walburn was born on October 26, 1945 at an Army base in Joplin, Missouri, weeks after WWII ended, to Lt. Col. George William Walburn II and Mary Benson Walburn.
Raised in Catonsville, Maryland, Bill served in Army intelligence in Vietnam. He earned his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and his MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
His 30-year career in electrical engineering began at Western Electric, which evolved into AT&T, then Lucent Technologies, from which he retired as engineering sales manager in 2001.
On May 9, 1981, he married Nancy Borland. They raised one daughter, Megan. Bill was an adventurer who loved sailing, cycling, motorcycling, skiing, and rowing. He was a natural leader and dedicated protector of his loved ones.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy, his father and mother, George and Mary, and a treasured aunt, Ruth. He is survived by his brothers Charles and David Walburn, his daughter Megan Walburn Viviano, son-in-law Mark Viviano, and grandsons Michael and Christian Viviano.
A Celebration of Life will be held in mid-May, with details forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LUNGevity Foundation , in support of lung cancer research and routine screening for at-risk individuals.
