George E. Wilkins, 79, of Severna Park, died of cancer Feb. 28 at his home after a two-year illness.
Born May 30, 1926, in Lakeland in South Baltimore and reared in Baltimore, Mr. Wilkins also lived in Brooklyn Park for 10 years. He was a self-employed contractor and builder.
During World War II he served in the Navy as a seaman 2nd class and was awarded the Asia-Pacific Area Campaign, the American Area Campaign and the World War II Victory medals.
He was a member of Pasadena United Methodist Church and enjoyed coaching baseball, playing golf, watching football, crabbing and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Olga Wilkins; five children, Sharon Sjoblom of Ocracoke, N.C., Penny Burroughs and Shelly McAvoy of Severna Park, John Wilkins of Prestonin Caroline County and Scott George "Scotty" Wilkins of Summerfield, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow.
