George Lynn Rives, 66, a nine-year resident of Ocean City and formerly of Severna Park, died of cancer Oct. 18 at home after a five-year illness.

Born Jan. 10, 1940, in Detroit, Mr. Rives was reared in Ponca City, Okla., and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1958.

He served in the Navy from 1958 to 1962 where he was a radioman 1st class. He was a self-employed appliance distributor.

Surviving are his wife, Judith Rives, whom he married March 27, 1983; one daughter, Pamela White of Severna Park; three sons, Jeff Rives of Elkridge, Chris Rives of Street and James Rives of Severna Park; one stepdaughter, Melissa Saylor of Charlotte Hall; one stepson, David McGuigan of Millsboro, Del.; and 15 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 5976 Old Washington Road, Elkridge. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
