George Wright O'Connor, 89, of Severna Park, died on February 29, 2012 at FutureCare Chesapeake in Arnold, MD.
George was born to his parents Thomas and Ella O'Connor on November 30, 1922 in Rahway, NJ, where he was raised. He graduated from Elizabeth High School in 1941 and then entered the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served in Greenland, Guam, Puerto Rico, and Okinawa during WW II, over a period of 21 years. Mr. O'Connor was employed as a Cryptologist with IITRI/ECAC in Annapolis for over 18 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the Fleet Reserve (Branch 24), the American Legion Post 0175 and Post 40, and the U. S. Naval Cryptologic Association. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching baseball. He was a huge Yankees fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Edna Katherine O'Connor, whom he married in 1946. He is survived by his daughters, Katherine Reynolds (Bill) of Arnold, MD and Donna Stidham (Ralph) of Annapolis; his son, Matthew O'Connor of Phoenix, AZ; as well as, six grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 6-8 pm at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146.
