George Nitsch
George W. Nitsch, 87, died of heart failure on Nov. 21 at the Chestertown River Hospital Center. Born and raised in Baltimore on Dec. 19, 1919, Mr. Nitsch, a retired Baltimore City police Sgt. with 25 years of service, was a Severna Park resident for 35 years. He also was a security guard for 15 years at NSA. He also served in the Navy during WWII.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 175 in Arnold. His pastimes included crossword puzzles, cryptograms and reading.
Surviving are his wife Gloria L. Nitsch of Chestertown; three sons, George W. Nitsch Jr. of Pasadena, James E. Nitsch of Dundalk and Dean W. Nitsch of Church Hill; two daughters, Mary Rita Wilson and Elizabeth J. Ballwanz both of Baltimore; one brother, Charles Nitsch of Baltimore; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. He was formerly married to the late Rita M. Nitsch.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 26 at Barranco & Sons Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 27 at St. Benedict's Church, 2612 Wilkins Ave., Baltimore, MD 21223. Burial will follow at the New Cathedral Cemetery, 4300 Old Frederick Road.
