IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Thomas
Meyers, Jr.
June 29, 1940 – July 10, 2018
George Thomas Meyers, Jr., 78, of Westminster, MD, passed away on July 10, 2018 at his home. He was born to his parents, George and Edna Meyers on June 29, 1940 in Baltimore and lived most of his life in Westminster, where he raised his family.
George was employed as a Project Design Coordinator in Gas Planning & Engineering when he retired from BGE in 2001, after 43 years of service. During his long career in the Gas Division he never missed a single day of work. His former coworkers nick named him the "Iron Man" in reference to Cal Ripken's streak. To stay in shape, he and his friends would walk along the C&O Canal about 10 miles each day until they completed the entire trip. He also enjoyed working on the weekends as a contractor. He would spend his spare time doing home improvement projects such as building additions, remodeling kitchens, basements, and bathrooms.
As the patriarch of the family, he insisted that all holidays be celebrated in the family home. His favorite holiday was Christmas. Each year, George's son, Troy and son-in-law, Rich would help George find the fattest Christmas tree to cut down and bring to his home. He would completely decorate the interior of his home to give it a warm and comfortable feeling for everyone to enjoy. His favorite decoration was the lighted angel he placed each year atop the tree. George enjoyed traveling with his family, especially to Ocean City, MD, Atlantic City, Chincoteague, VA and Florida.
George proudly served in the United States Army receiving an honorable discharge in 1965, he also served in the National Guard. George was a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Westminster Moose Lodge, a former member of Westminster Elks Lodge, and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Westminster.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Margaret Meyers; his devoted sons, Mark Meyers (Jim Barranco), Tony Meyers (Shannon Meyers), Troy Meyers (Benji Dove); his dear brother, Ronald Meyers; his caring son in-law, Richard Rosso; his cherished grandchildren, Marion David Bennett Jr., Brittany DelRegno, Emileigh Lucas (Christopher Lucas), Matthew, Alexis, and Norah; as well as, his loving great-grandchildren, Kali, Adelie, Cecilia and Isabelle. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Meyers Rosso and his brothers, Eugene Meyers and Earl Meyers.
