IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George A.
Lentz, Jr.
March 16, 1928 – December 12, 2020
Dr. George A. Lentz, Jr. 92, of Severna Park, MD moved on to his next mission December 12, 2020 at home surrounded by family. Born March 16, 1928 in Baltimore, MD, to the late Velma Woods (Lentz) Carter and George A. Lentz, Sr, he was preceded in death by brothers Donald Lentz and Robert Lentz.
After a date one night, a young medical student and a nursing student shared their first kiss, sparking a romance that last 24,006 days. George is survived by the love of his life, Shirley Jane Lentz (Bramble). They were married on June 9, 1957 at the Immanuel Church of Christ in Cambridge, MD one day after graduating from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. That love blossomed into a family. George is also survived by his four children; George A. Lentz, III (Kelly) of La Vernia, TX, Pamela A. Lentz (Jay Ridgely) of Hanover, MD, Andrew L. Lentz (Leslie Anne) of Severna Park, MD, and Glenn E. Lentz (Caroline) of Severna Park, MD; eight grandchildren Susan, Sara, Julia, Amelia, Taylor, Chase, Mallory, and Harrison; six great-grandchildren Ike, Deacon, George, Olivia, Casey, and Ophelia.
Elvis Presley once said, " Values are like fingerprints. Nobody's are the same, but you leave em all over everything you do ." Indeed not 24 hours from George's passing, did we have the honor of collecting the fingerprints he left as a clinician, as a father, as a grandfather, and a friend. In fact, there are so many, that it would be impossible to describe them all here. And while he might not have been the richest, the fastest, or the tallest dad, he would win the decathlon of dads.
George graduated from City College in Baltimore, MD in 1945, and was a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University in 1953 and in 1957 earned a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Maryland, specializing in pediatrics. He served two years as a Captain in the Army Medical Corps at Fort Benning in Columbus, GA. And while George's educational accomplishments would have been found prominently at the top of any resume for work here on earth, his resume for heaven would begin with a summary of his life's mission that highlighted his years of dedication and service to others…a husband for 63 years, as a physician for 57 years, attending physician at Mr. Washington Pediatric Hospital, a scout leader, medical director for the Maryland School for the Blind, Medical Director for the United Cerebral Palsy of Central Maryland, Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Sunday school teacher and lay leader at the Pasadena United Methodist Church. Serving was so integral to George's character, his "vacation" was building a children's school for the Grace Mountain Mission in Haiti. In his spare time, George followed the Orioles and Ravens, but preferred the sidelines of his grandchildren's sporting endeavors basketball, field hockey, football, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, and volleyball.
Dad's life exemplified Micah 6:8: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, And don't take yourself too seriously— take God seriously.
All Funeral Services will be private at this time. Memorial donations can be made to Pasadena United Methodist Church, 61 Ritchie Hwy, Pasadena, MD 21122 or the Grace Mountain Mission, c/o Dr. Jerome Prinston, 6901 Denwood Rd, Knoxville, TN 37920. The family will plan a memorial ceremony in 2021.
