George Lantzas
George S. Lantzas, 55, of Arnold, a lawyer with a practice in Glen Burnie, died Nov. 11 at Anne Arundel Medical Center from kidney cancer.
Mr. Lantzas was born in Hartford, Conn., on Sept. 12, 1951. He graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., in 1973 and from its law school in 1976. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
He was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1977 and was a member of the Anne Arundel Bar Association. He served as a state's attorney from 1979 to 1985. He then opened a private practice in Glen Burnie, where he worked until his death.
He served for many years as the appointed member of the Judicial Nominating Committee for the Anne Arundel Bar Association and was a member of the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys Association.
A member of Ducks Unlimited, he was an avid sportsman who enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing, camping and bicycling. He was a soccer player during his school years, earning a varsity letter as a member of the Washington and Lee soccer team.
His interests were cooking, especially fish and game, and reading about the Civil War. He made many trips to the Gettysburg battlefield to study events that happened there.
Survivors include his wife, Mary C. Lantzas of Arnold; one son, Thomas G. Lantzas II; one daughter, Catherine A. Lantzas, both of Arnold; and one brother, Thomas D. Lantzas of Fairfield, Conn. He was the son of the late Thomas and Joan Lantzas.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie HIghway. The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Road. Burial will be in Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.
