IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George C.
Hofmeier
March 17, 1937 – November 8, 2016
George C. Hofmeier of Severna Park died peacefully at home after a long, courageous battle with metastatic cancer. He was born in Baltimore to Kate (Nilles) Hofmeier and George Hofmeier. After graduating from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, he went on to study engineering at McCoy College.
George worked as the sales manager of bridge products for Bowman Steel Corporation in Pittsburgh, and later as sales manager at Bridge and Paving Services in Wilmington, Delaware. He retired as President and CEO of S.I.P., Inc. of Delaware. George was the past president of the Maryland South Delaware Optimist Club and presently a member of the Mountain Road Optimist Club.
He was a gentle, generous man with a dry wit. George loved all sports, but never quite forgave the Colts for "leaving in the middle of the night" in 1984. Walking along the beach on the Eastern Shore and making people laugh were favorite pastimes.
George loved his wife of 44 years, Patricia Rettinger Hofmeier, more than words can express. Together, "Mr. and Mrs. H." sponsored several Naval Academy Midshipmen "kids", opening their homes and their hearts and caring for them when their families were sometimes far away. Doug, Tony, Steve, Jason, Chris, Casey and "Stars" will never forget the many kindnesses shown to them over the years.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by his brother-in-law, Larry Rettinger, his sister-in-law, Duane Derwanik, and George, Rhonda and David Hofmeier and Linda Huettner and three nieces and two nephews.
Friends may attend a Memorial Visitation at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Friday, November 11, 2016 from 4-8:00pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church in Severna Park on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 10:30am. Burial will be Private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of George, to Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Department , P.O. Box 547, Severna Park, MD 21146.
