George DeWitt Finster, Jr., 88, a resident of Severna Park, died of natural causes on March 25, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born November 3, 1921 in Washington, DC, was raised in Baltimore and lived in the Severna Park area since 1955.

Mr. Finster graduated from Baltimore City College, Then he enlisted in the Navy and served in WWII aboard the USS California BB-44. He continued his Naval Career as a trumpet player in the Naval Academy Band, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. Then Dewitt worked as a civilian at the Naval Academy in Data Processing. DeWitt played trumpet professionally throughout the area.

He was a member of the Baltimore Area Musicians Union and St. John the Evangelist Church. DeWitt enjoyed baseball and football, especially the Baltimore Colts, Ravens, and Orioles. He loved animals, especially his cat Nick and his dogs Chipmunk and Hank. DeWitt loved music, especially jazz, and he enjoyed playing cards. He was very devoted to and loved by his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy T. Finster (nee Niedzwick); his sister, Cordy Zimmerman; and brother, Gene Finster.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kathleen Finster McKay of Laurel and Susan Marie Finster of Annapolis; his son, John DeWitt Finster of Severna Park, two sons in law; Donald S. McKay and Michael W. Fuller; his brother-in-law, Al Zimmerman; and sister-in-law, Antoinette Flury.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday, March 28 from 5-7 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 29th at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow in MD Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 11403 Cronhill Drive, Suite E, Owings Mills, MD 21117 or to the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21401.
