George Lee Duncan of Severna Park, Maryland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children, on December 25, 2021. In passing, he joins the love of his life, Carmelina Duncan, his wife; his parents, William and Johanna Duncan; and his brothers, William and David; His spirit, legacy, and memory will live on and be celebrated by his five children: Francesca Duncan Rattray, George Michael Duncan, Johanna Duncan, Gilda Duncan, and Michael Duncan; their families; his sister-in-law, Jean Duncan; his many nieces, nephews; his cousins and cousins-in-law; and friends who were as close as family.
George, the youngest of three sons of Scottish immigrants, was born in Ellicott City, Maryland, on July 7, 1940, and his Scottish heritage played a central role in his values. Disce Pati , the Duncan clan motto, meaning "learn to endure," defined his temperament and approach to all of life's ups and downs.
A lover of animals, George grew up on a farm and won 4H awards for raising livestock. He played the clarinet in school and graduated from Annapolis High School in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1963, becoming certified in heating and air conditioning engineering. Upon leaving the Army, he moved to New Jersey and worked for RCA Corporation. While there, he met and fell in love with Carmelina, married, and went on to raise five children, putting the Disce Pati motto to the test.
George and his family lived in Severna Park, Maryland, for nearly 45 years. Following a long career at Westinghouse and later in private consulting, George retired and pursued his hobbies and interests, including collecting and restoring antiques and cars. A lifelong fan of 1960s Ford Mustangs, George was a founding member of the Chesapeake Bay Mustang Club and spent much of his time restoring a 1967 Mustang.
