George Michael
Cumberledge
April 26, 1946 – April 19, 2025
George Michael Cumberledge was born in 1946 in Akron, Ohio but grew up in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Marquette University in 1968 with a Major in Finance. He came to Maryland in June 1968 to work for the National Security Agency in the IT Department where he began as a software programmer before holding several management positions in computer operations. In 1978 he took a position on the DDT Finance Staff. In 1984 he began a successful tour in England as the station's chief financial officer. He returned to Fort Meade in 1987 and held a series of management positions in the DDR, DDT and Agency finance departments culminating his career as a Senior Executive holding the position of Agency Comptroller. During his career he received several awards including the Presidential Rank award. He graduated from the Senior Executive Development Program, the Armed Forces Staff College, Federal Executive Institute and National Senior Cryptologic Program. He retired in 2002 after 34 years and then spent an additional 12 years at NSA as an Agency contractor and then a part time Agency employee. He was a member of the DC National Guard and served as a Military Policeman. He served in many volunteer activities including president of both his community association in Millersville and president of his Ocean City condo association. He served from 1976 to 2015 on the Tower Federal Credit Union Board of Directors. He held a variety of Board Leadership positions including Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Chairman concluding as Chairman of the Board for 14 years. He also served as a founding Board member and Chairman of the Tower Cares Foundation. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and golf. In 2014 he moved with his wife to The Villages, Florida. While at The Villages, he also represented the Phoenix Society as leader of the North Central Florida Chapter.
George leaves his wife Linda, children Cristin and Michael and grandchildren Lucas, Allison, Grace and Cassandra.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday April 24th from 3-5 and 7-9pm at Barranco Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway Severna Park MD, 21146. Interment will be private.
