George Candela
George A. Candela, 78, of Pasadena, died of lung cancer July 24 at FutureCare Chesapeake in Arnold after a brief illness.
Mr. Candela was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Wrentham, Mass., and his past residences included Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Annapolis. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Boston University and a doctorate from the University of Chicago.
He served in the Army and worked for the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg as a physical chemist.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane Candela of Pasadena; one daughter, Brenda Williams of Eldersburg, Md.; four sons, David Candela of Elmhurst, Ill., Donald Candela of Granby, Mass., Gerald Candela of Pikesville and Brad Bell of Walkersville in Frederick County; one sister, Laura Gabriele of Boca Raton, Fla.; one brother, Robert Candela of Cohasset, Mass.; and three grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Clara Sweeney.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Burial will follow in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
