IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Garry C.
Spears
August 9, 1945 – June 5, 2023
Garry Claud Spears, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend, peacefully passed away on June 5, 2023, after a courageous battle with a prolonged illness. Born on August 9, 1945, in Chicago, IL, Garry's journey touched the lives of many.
Garry's path in life led him to the University of Iowa before he was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 21. During his time stationed at Fort Meade, MD, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Spears (Gardner). They celebrated their marriage on August 30, 1969, and shared a beautiful bond for 53 years.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, Garry relocated to Maryland to be closer to Elizabeth and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Towson State University. After years in the banking and insurance industries, he followed his entrepreneurial spirit and opened a custom art framing shop and gallery in Laurel, MD, which was his pride and joy for over three decades.
Garry's devotion to his faith was evident through his active involvement in Our Lady of the Fields church. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and served as a cantor for many years.
In his leisure time, Garry found joy in various physical activities such as biking, swimming, golfing, and playing tennis. He found joy in cheering on his six grandchildren in their endeavors. He loved a party and would be the first on and last off the dance floor. Garry had a remarkable sense of humor and was known for his quick wit, never missing an opportunity to bring laughter to those around him.
Garry and Elizabeth lovingly raised four children, including their youngest daughter, Katie, who has special needs. Their unwavering love and commitment to their family created a strong and enduring bond that will forever be treasured.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses, physicians, and staff at Johns Hopkins Hospital for their exceptional care during Garry's journey.
Garry Spears leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a profound impact on the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Elizabeth, children Shawna Mudd (Rick Mudd), Christian Spears, Lauren Procaccini (Marc Procaccini), Katie Spears, Claudia Spears-Cooper (Robert Cooper), Roeine Elsner, his grandchildren, and a multitude of family and friends.
In honor of Garry's memory, the family encourages donations to be made to a charitable cause or organization of your choice. May Garry's soul find eternal peace, and may his spirit continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.
