G. Court Clarke, 70, a longtime resident of Severna Park, died of cancer April 4 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.


Born May 29, 1935, in Spangler, Pa., Mr. Clarke was reared in Cowen, W.Va. He was a 1953 valedictorian graduate of Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, W.Va. He received a bachelor of science degree in business from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.,

He was a sales engineer first with Jeffrey Mfg. from 1958 to 1963 and then with Cooper Power Systems from 1964 until his retirement in 1999.

He was a member and usher at Severna Park United Methodist Church. He enjoyed his family, sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, home improvement projects and gardening.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Joan Ellen Johnson Clarke; one daughter, Carole Clarke Parker of Millersville; one sister, Gail Passant of Arlington Heights, Ill; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Mark Clarke, and his parents, Gladys and Samuel Clarke.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road. Burial will be private.

Court Clarke of Severna Park, beloved husband of Joan Ellen Clarke (nee Johnson), devoted father of Carole Clarke Parker and the late Mark Courtland Clarke, dear brother of Gail Passant, dear father in law of Paul J. Parker, loving grandfather of Kelly, Kate and Tom. Friends may visit at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8pm. A Memorial Service will be held at Severna Park United Methodist Church on Tuesday at 1pm. Interment will be Private.
