Frederick (Lou) Brimberg, born 21 August 1938 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Survived by his Wife of 47 years, Anne and son Louis Hallam of Blackpool, England.

Lou graduated from Pratt Institute with a degree in Electrical Engineering and went to work at Westinghouse Electric as a Field Engineer installing and grooming launch computers on Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarines. After working at Newport News Ship and Dry Dock and Electric Boat shipyards he was chosen to conduct at sea testing of a developmental system while making a north Atlantic patrol aboard the SSBN Henry Clay. Returning to Baltimore he worked on the development and operation of the Ocean Bottom Scanning Sonar (OBSS), a deep ocean side scan sonar. He led search teams looking for lost nuclear bombs off Palomares, Spain, the SSN Scorpion, off the Azores, and several crashed aircraft around the world. He also worked on the development and testing of the Deepstar series of mini subs.

He then participated in the development of the AN/AQS-14, a helicopter towed sea mine hunting sonar, which became the Navy's standard Airborne Mine Counter Measures (AMCM) sonar and was instrumental in the sale of these systems to the Danish Navy. As a Senior Project Leader he assembled a small team to upgrade the AQS-14 which became the AN/AQS-24, still part of the AMCM inventory.

Lou retired from Northrop Grumman in 2001 but returned as a contractor until 2011. During this period he worked on the development of Unmanned Surface Vehicles and participated in the successful sales effort of the AQS-24 to the Japanese Navy, finally retiring in 2011 after 49 years. He held two patents.

Lou enjoyed boating, both sailboat racing and later cruising, both on the Chesapeake and long distance in the family's trawler with Anne and their several cats. He was a skier and a SCUBA diver, Opera buff, and traveled the world with Anne (sans cats). He was an avid reader and tinkerer, fixing things that were broken and breaking things that were fixed. No services are planned.
