Fred Stauffer, a longtime resident of Millersville, MD passed away on April 16, 2020.

Fred was born to Claude and Anna Stauffer in Hanover, PA. He was raised in Hanover and graduated from Eichelberger High School. Fred graduated from Shippensburg State College, where he met the love of his life, Colleen. He later received his masters degree from George Washington University.

Colleen and Fred married on August 10, 1963. The two of them moved to Millersville, MD on Christmas Eve, in 1969 and have lived there ever since.

Fred worked for Anne Arundel County Public Schools for 36 years. He loved Anne Arundel County Schools and sports. His passion was working at Annapolis High School. He had many roles there. He was the mathematics department chairperson, track coach from 1963-1969 and the athletic director from 1970 until 1999, when he retired. Annapolis High School has a road leading up to the school named after him, "Fred Stauffer Lane."

Fred received many awards including; receiving the County Executive Award from Anne Arundel County Sports Hall of Fame in 2007, the Bob Pascal Award in 1990, the Steve Carroll Award in 2012, and was the MSADA District 5 Athletic Director of the Year in both 1993 and 1999. Fred also had an Annapolis, Christmas basketball tournament named after him, the "Fred Stauffer Capital City Classic" for boys and girls. He also loved traveling, the Orioles and the Ravens.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Anna Stauffer; his brother, James M. Stauffer and James' wife, Joyce Stauffer; his brother-in-law, Robert T. Small and his nephew, Daniel Stauffer (Cheryl, of Colorado Springs).

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Colleen Stauffer, of Millersville; his brother-in-law, Brian M. Small (Lori), of Camp Hill, PA; his sister-in-law, Janice Small, of Grantville, PA; his nephews: James A. Stauffer (Linda), of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; Gerald Stauffer (Karen), of Leesville, SC; Brent M. Small (Dixie) of Portland, OR; Daniel Small (Terri) of Harrisburg, PA; his nieces: Beth A. Smith (Glenn), of Medford, NJ; Kristen Cooper, of Beaverton, OR; Angela Riordan (Robert), of Glen Ridge, NJ; Pamela Seetoo, of Harrisburg, PA; Meghan Small, of Mechanicsburg, PA; Jolene Mettle (Bradley), of Palmyra, PA; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

All services will be private at this time due to the laws surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Please check back to the funeral home website later, for a date of a public memorial service, when laws and conditions allow.
