James Franklin "Frank" Welch, 87, a 52 year resident of Severna Park died peacefully of heart failure at Johns Hopkins Hospital on April 26th.
Born August 13, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland, Frank was the youngest of 5 brothers and sisters. Frank attended Glen Burnie High School and the Maryland Institute of Art. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II from 1943-1945.
Frank was president of Countryside Homes based in Severna Park, building primarily in West Severna Park, Berrywood and Round Bay. It was known that if you had a Frank Welch home - you had the best!
He married his sweetheart, Marjorie Eleanor Stevens, on November 8, 1947. They started their life in Glen Burnie and then moved to Severna Park to raise their 3 daughters.
Frank was an active member of the Glen Burnie Rotary Club for over 50 years and was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. He had been the head of the Rotary College Scholarship Foundation. He was also a member of the original congregation of Severna Park United Methodist Church.
Frank enjoyed playing golf, gardening, watching the Orioles and Ravens, but most of all being with his children, and nine grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie and his three daughters; Cheryl L. Hancock and Woodrow S. Hancock, Gail L. Curtis, Carol A. Washington and Keith Washington, his nine grandchildren; Kristen Hancock Shoemaker, Lauren Hancock Holbrook, Erin Hancock Haneline, Kaitlin Hancock Rose, James Michael Curtis, Benjamin Adam Curtis, Kelly Lynn Washington, Bryan Wayne Washington and John Franklin Washington.
Family and Friends may visit at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Monday, April 29th from 2-4pm and 7-9 pm.
Funeral Services will be at Severna Park United Methodist Church at 2pm on Tuesday, April 30th
Interment at Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery in Millersville.
