Frank H. Lafferty, 83, of Arnold, a dedicated volunteer at Severna Park High School, died Sept. 9 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Lafferty was born and reared in Dover, Del. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946, stationed in England and Portugal. He then studied at George Washington University and in 1951 began a 25-year career with the Air Force Systems Command.
After his retirement, he began to volunteer at Severna Park High School, an involvement that extended for more than 23 years and included between 30 and 55 hours a week.
He received the Athletic Department's Unsung Hero Award for his work assisting the Athletic Director, Andy Borland. In 1994, he received the Bob Pascal Award for his contributions to county athletics and in 2003 was inducted into the inaugural class of the Severna Park High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
He was a York Rite Mason of Annapolis Lodge 89 and a charter member of the Broadneck Elks Lodge.
He was a member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church for nearly 40 years and lived at the Pines on the Severn community for 49 years.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jean W. Lafferty; two sons, Stephen W. Lafferty and Michael J. Lafferty, both of Baltimore; his sister, Frances Saran of Annapolis; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Woods Church, followed by a reception at the church.
