Frank E. Davis, lovingly known as Poppy, 96, of Gibson Island, passed away on November 12, 2012 in Millersville, MD.

Poppy was born to his parents, Ernest and Rose Davis on July 6, 1916 in Florida, New York. He attended Tuxedo High School, graduating in 1934 and later received a degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

He served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman during World War II and afterwards he often declared that he never discharged his weapon. He was a lover, not a fighter. After his return, he split his time between his job as a civil servant at the Pentagon and his family in Monroe, New York. After 42 years of "keeping his head down and his ears open", he retired to enjoy his other passions, most importantly to spend time with his family. His hobbies included cars, traveling, chauffeuring his grandchildren, acting as personal and family archivist, philosophizing with quotable quotes and his son, Randy. He was a Freemason and a member of the American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marjorie McElroy Davis.

He is survived by his son, Randy F. Davis of Gibson Island; his granddaughter Meredith Davis of Birmingham, AL; his grandson, Erik Davis of Gibson Island; and his love, Ursula Sallada of Arlington, VA. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 24th on Gibson Island, MD. To attend, please contact the family directly.

Poppy led by example and taught his family many things, among them; the value of hard work, the power of a resilient spirit, the pleasure of simple meal, dedication to his country and to always wear clean socks.
