Frank Joseph Cingel, 90, of Severna Park, Maryland, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026. Born on April 12, 1935, in Trenton, New Jersey, Frank was raised in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Pennsbury High School. He went on to earn a BSME from Penn State University in 1957.
Following graduation, Frank moved to Maryland to begin his engineering career at the David Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center, where he worked from 1957 to 1965. He later joined Westinghouse, where he retired after 27 years in 1992. Always the engineer at heart, Frank was known as an inventor and lifelong tinkerer who could often be found in his shop, building and refining his latest project.
Sailing was Frank’s great passion. He sailed the East Coast from Maine to the Florida Keys and to Bermuda. Closer to home, he and his beloved wife Elizabeth cruised up and down the Chesapeake countless times, dropping anchor in nearly every cove along the way.
Frank was an active member of the Belvedere Yacht Club for 46 years, holding several elected offices including Treasurer, Secretary and serving as Commodore in 1988 and 1989.
Above all, Frank cherished his family. He delighted in the noise and chaos of growing family vacations and parties. He often surprised his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with personalized birthday poems that captured their unique spirits.
Frank was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Euphrasia Snyder, who passed away in 1968; his wife of 38 years Sarah Elizabeth Womble; and his son Guy Turlington. He is survived by his children, Sandy Beatty, Karyn Gardner (Douglas), Teri Malone, and Keith Cingel (Linda); 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146.
Frank held a lifelong reverence for the Chesapeake Bay so in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation at www.CBF.org or by clicking the link below.
