Frank D. Brendza, 88, a resident of Annapolis died on June 9, 2012 at Tate Chesapeake Hospice House in Linthicum, following a struggle with kidney cancer. His wife of 44 years Elizabeth Brendza preceded in death on January 21, 1990. Mr. Brendza retired from the United States Army in 1964 after 23 years of service. He served with the Army Air Corps 7th Bombardment group during WWII in India and Burma. During the Korean War, he was Sergeant Major of the 21st EVAC Hospital in Pusan, Korea. For five years he was assigned to the 2nd Army Armed Forces Examining Station, Pittsburgh, PA. From 1959-1962, he was assigned to the 45th Medical Bn, 3rd Armored Division in Frankfurt, Germany. His last military assignment, prior to retirement, was as Sergeant Major of McDonald Army Hospital of Ft. Eustis, Virginia. Mr. Brendza and his family then returned to Pittsburgh, PA where he worked as a Director of Safety, Security, and Environmental Services at Mercy Hospital and St. Margaret Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1987. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Annapolis, MD where he resided until the present time.

Mr. Brendza is survived by two daughters, Christine McMurtrie of Melbourne, FL and Cynthia Easton of Honey Brook, PA; a sister, Mildred Thomas of Jonesboro, GA; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth Easton of Rome, NY, Kevin Easton of Rochester, NY, and Justin Beaumont of Glen Burnie, MD.

Mr. Brendza was a devout member of St. Andrews By the Bay Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He belonged to the DAV, VFW, Glen Burnie Moose Lodge 1465, Annapolis Elks Lodge 622, and the Annapolis Fleet Reserve. He was a 4th Degree member of the Fort Pitt Chapter Knights of Columbus. He was an avid bowler and dancer with his long-time friend and companion, Eileen Frank of Annapolis, MD. His hobbies included sports, music, and collecting coins.

Family and friends may visit at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, 21146 on Wednesday, June 13 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at St. Andrew By the Bay, 701 College Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21409. Burial will take place at 1:00 pm, June 14, 2012 at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Donations in his name may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
