Frances "Girlie" Sappington, 85, of Pasadena, died Oct. 19 at Glen Burnie Health and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.
Born in Baltimore on Jan. 3, 1921, Mrs. Sappington was reared in Pasadena and attended Jacobsville Elementary School. From 1950 to 1961 she worked at the dry cleaning plant at Fort George G. Meade.
She was a member of Pasadena United Methodist Church.
On July 29, 1939, she married Ernest Wells Sappington who died April 13, 1986.
Surviving are her daughter, Frances V. Sappington Sweeney of Annapolis; three sons, Ernest Charles Sappington of Cornelius, N.C., Melvin Sappington of Smyrna, Del., and Richard Wells Sappington of Olin, N.C.; two sisters, Elizabeth Duvall of Severna Park and Anna Fuka of Gilbert, S.C.; one brother, Carroll Herpel of Florida; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie.
